One of my first reader's, Jennifer writes:
Hey Jen…..
My son is doing a butterfly science project. Part 2 of his project is to create a 3D representation of a butterfly. Do you have any craft ideas that would work for this?
Jennifer
Since I am not sure what butterfly her son has to represent, we used a Blue Morpho. I believe her son is in either 1 st or 2 nd grade, my helper are 3 and 4 years old, so I had to help them a lot.
You will need: Construction paper, markers, scissors, glue stick and hot glue, pipe stem cleaner and a stick.
Cut out butterfly wings, body, antennae and a leaf.
Decorate wings.
Glue on body and antennae.
Fold wings up.
Decorate leaf by drawing on veins and fold in half long ways.
Attach pipe stem cleaners to the underside for legs with hot glue. I only used one pipe stem cleaner for 1 set of legs. But for a school project,I would add the correct amount of legs.
Hot glue the leaf to a stick. Then hot glue the legs and the bottom tip of the body to the leaf.
This has nothing to do with Jennifer's question but I thought I would add it anyway. Last spring we went to a butterfly farm. They did a cute demonstration on the butterflies senses.
Butterflies use their antennae to smell - head band with noses attached.
They hear with their knees- ears on their knees.
They taste with their feet- tongues on their feet.
Feel vibrations with their wings.
Feel vibrations with their wings.
Drink with a long tube.
It make for a cute and memorable presentation.
