Hot Air Balloon

Image
The kids and I did this hot air balloon a few years ago, we liked it so much we thought we would try it again. We used: Plastic grocery bag, Styrofoam (or plastic cup), scissors, thread, needle, blow dryer. Cut the cup down to about 1/4 of its original size, leaving the bottom. Also cut the handles off the plastic bag. Take the needle and thread and sew around the opening of the bag, to make the opening smaller. Now hang the basket by sewing 4 threads equally around from the cup to the bag. Place the opening over the hairdryer and turn on high. Now let it fly.

Science Experiment - Expansion

My kids loved doing this experiment. You only need a few things that you already have around the house. Blow up a balloon with using your mouth. We used:2 balloons,2 plastic bottles, 2 pitchers- one filled with hot water and the other with ice water. Fit the balloons tightly over the openings of the 2 empty bottles. Put one bottle in the pitcher with ice water. See what happens. Put the other bottle in the pitcher with hot water. Now what happens ?

Simple Science- What Happened to the Water ?

This is an easy experiment that I know we have all done or seen before, but I like to use my blog as a resource of ideas. Maybe on a rainy day you need to find something to do and you look on my blog and say, " Oh I forgot about that, we can do that." Have you ever wondered how the plant outside get the water they need from the soil? Here is a fun experiment to show you how plants drink. I did this in my 2's class and they loved it. I was surprised how interested they were to do this. You will need: a glass, water, food coloring (red works well), spoon, and 1 celery stalk with leaves. Fill the glass half way with water. Drop in red food coloring, enough to make the water dark red. Stir the water. Put the celery in and wait over night. You can ask, "What will happen?" The celery leaves turn red. There will also be red lines lengthwise through the stalk. Cut the stalk in half, and you will see red dots. You can explain, as a plant grows, it roots act like straws,...
