Ice Boats

Image
Cheyanne and I had a lot of fun making and playing with these boats. I think the ice cube boats are cute but they melted really, really fast. I would recommend making the bigger boats. We used: Water, food coloring, plastic wrap, aluminum foil and tooth picks for the ice cube boats. For the larger and better boat we used: Bottom of a 2 quart carton (such as O.J.), water, food coloring, aluminum foil, cookie sticks or Popsicle sticks. Poor water in container, add food coloring and stir. Cover container with aluminum foil and poke stick or Popsicle stick through the foil. Freeze until solid. Pull out of container and add sail made from aluminium foil cut into triangles wrapped around the stick. Now have fun.

Kid Made Monster Truck

Image
I found this really great kid craft book at the library, Crafty Kids, Fun Projects For You And Your Toddler, by Rosie Hankin. We did a few of these crafts today, and the Monster Truck was one. You will need: construction paper, glue, scissors, Styrofoam bowls, aluminum foil, stickers and markers. I cut out the shape of the truck. Let them glue on the truck and wheels to a piece of construction paper. Then decorate. We made a mess, but it was fun. Here is Caity's truck, The Lightening Flash. Colton's The Spike A Saurus

Paper Towel Roll Airplanes

Image
Another rainy Saturday, so we made airplanes out of paper towel roll. The pictures did not turn out that great, they look better in person. The kids enjoyed making them, and playing with them afterwards. We used: paper towel rolls (you could also use toilet paper rolls for smaller planes), scissors, glue, construction paper, markers, foam sheets ( I used them for the wings, so when the kids throw them they would bend, but you could also use construction paper or card stock. I got the foam sheets at the Dollar Tree), aluminum foil (for windows), and reinforcement labels(for decorations) Cover the roll with construction paper. Add wings and tail. And decorate. This one is Colton's . These are the girl's plane before finishing their decorating. Here is Cody's.

Toilet Paper Roll Race Cars

I know a lot of my crafts are on the girly side, but this is perfect for the little boys in your lives (girls like this too). You will need toilet paper rolls, construction paper, brass clips, scissors and markers. I roll the toilet paper roll with construction paper and then let the kids decorate as they please. Caity added a person made from a pom-pom. This blue one is Colton's. Colton's made this one too, it has flames coming out the back because it so fast. This lovely one is mine. Cody made a rocket. The great thing about crafts are it has taught me that it is O.K. if the kids do not make what I want them to make. Also it has really showed me my kids are very creative, much more than I am.

Mayflower. Maybe Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria ?

Image
I thought this was a good craft to bring up the Mayflower. We looked on the internet for pictures of the Mayflower, what year it sailed and who sailed it. We also discussed the Pilgrims and the English flag. It is made with an orange juice carton wrapped with a paper bag (you could also paint it or use construction paper), skewers for masses and construction paper for sails.
