Sleepover Pillow

Image
Caity and I took this bath cover up  and turned it into a carrying case for a pillow. It is great for toting a pillow to a sleepover. Another easy sewing project, since we are both learning to sew. These bath cover ups were on clearance at the Dollar General for $3.

Felt Creations

Image
Caity, Chey and I went to a local shop that we just love called "Simply Pink" and purchased these cute owls to go on the girl's hats this winter. After looking at them, I said we can make these. And so Caity and I did. These are my 2 favorites. I did the penguin and Caity did the snowman. We used felt, scissors, hot glue gun, assorted colored thread, needles and sequins. We cut out the shapes we wanted. Caity cut out the mushroom and Cheyanne cut out this package. Then we sewed and glued them together.

Part III to Reader's Question

Image
I thought this would also be a good craft for the Boy Scouts to make. It is easy, practical and recycles. These clothes hanger would be nice for the residents to hang their clothes on. It might brighten their day. I also made a small one thinking it would make a nice baby shower gift if done in pastel colors. I know my hangers would never be sold in a boutique, but it is the thought that counts. You will need: plastic hanger, scissors, ribbon (I used 5 yards for the large hanger and an extra piece large enough for a bow), tape and 7 plastic grocery bags. Wrap plastic bags around the hanger, securing them with tape. Wrap hanger with ribbon. Tie a bow on top. You could add a little gift tag.

Part II to Reader's Question- Eyeglass Holders

Image
I think these eyeglass holders are so cute. They are easy and practical. I thought they would also make a good project for the boy scouts to do for the nursing home residence. You will need: piece of craft fur, craft foam, marker and ruler, buttons, sewing needle and strong thread, fabric and foam glue and clothes pins. Cut the fur into 7 1/2 x 10 inches Cut foam into 6 x 6 1/2 inches Place the fur side down on the table and glue on foam piece. The foam piece should lay flat on the bottom edge and should lay long wise. Mark 2 dot on the foam. 2 inches up from the lower edge and 2 1/4 inch from the edge. Sew buttons on the fur side using the black dots as guides. Put glue on the side half way up the foam. Fold the foam in half. Use clothes pins to hold while glue dries. Use the buttons as a guide and cut 2 holes in the top flap. Make sure the holes are large enough for the buttons to fit through. Fold over top flap and push through buttons. I think these would also make great presents...

No Sew Fleece Poncho

Image
I love this poncho. It is cute, easy and inexpensive. Did I mention easy. You will need: 30x30 in perfect square of fleece and scissors. Fold fleece in half diagonally (making a triangle shape) and cut a semi circle in the center of the fold. The semi circle should be about 5 inches in length. You could use a bowl as a guide. Cut fringes all the way around. Leave as fringes or tie in knots or add beads to the ends. This is an easy craft, I made 2 of these in about an hour.

No Sew Fleece Pilllow and Blanket or Sleeping Bag

Image
The next few post will be answering one of my reader's questions (I love the way that sounds, it sounds like something Martha Stewart would say). She writes: "Hi Jennifer, In November I will be in charge of a pack meeting for our cub scouts. The request is that we come up with something for about 35-40 boys to make in one evening that they could give away in December to Nursing home residents. I need the gift to be fairly inexpensive and yet I want it to be something nice and semi practical for nursing home residents. I also want it to be something boys would like to make." My first idea is a No-Sew Fleece Pillow and/or Blanket. These are an easy and inexpensive project. I thought the pillow would be nice and soft to lay on. The blanket would be nice because it seems older people are always cold. These are easy, can be done in 1 evening. I bet even for a boy scout troop you could get a craft store to donate some fleece and filler for the pillows. You will ne...
