The Hat by Jan Brett Part 2

In my 2 year old class we continued working on, "The Hat" be Jan Brett

We made the stocking that go stuck on the hedgehog and the horse that was in the book.




The kids painted red on a white piece of paper. After it dried, I cut it into the shape of a stocking.

Then we took a poinsettia stamp and decorated the stocking.





We also made horses from the kids traced shoe foot print.

We used brown construction paper, yarn, wiggly eyes, and glue.

Trace foot with the shoes on and trace the arm for the neck. And cut triangles for the ears.

Glue together the neck and head. Draw on nostril holes. Glue on ears, mane and eyes.

I love your collection of art from Jan Brett! That horse is awesome! I never would have thought about using your foot to make the horse.

I love this project it is so easy and only takes a short amount of prep time. Cheyanne loves making the volcano erupt. We used: plastic plate, plastic cup, aluminium foil, tape, vinegar, baking soda and red food coloring. Tape the bottom of the cup to the center of the plate. Cover with aluminium foil. Cut a hole in the center of the foil and push the edges down in the cup. Spoon in some baking soda. Pour in the vinegar. Watch it erupt.

Cricket Craft

Here is another repost, we are doing bugs at preschool, so this fits right into what we are doing. I found this cute craft on the Better Homes and Garden website. My kids saw it and could not wait to make it (because it is a bug). I made some modifications to it to make it a little easier for younger kids. Do not be scared of the paint because you do not have to use it. I know paint can be messy. You will need toilet paper roll, scissors, glue, pom-poms, paint or markers or green construction paper for the body (to make the toilet paper roll green), wiggly eyes, chenille stems, green foam sheet or construction paper and a pencil. Have the kids paint the toilet paper roll green. OR you can have them color it with a marker OR just wrap it in green construction paper and glue it. While the paint is drying, I get all the pieces set up to glue on. I used foam sheets to cut out legs but construction paper will work too. For the nose, I cut a triangle out of craft ...
